Thank you Deepika, even if you would have charged me, I do not have a penny to pay you because I lost my job today.
Oh My God! I am so sorry Pulkit, it indeed is a very bad day for you. Would you mind telling me more? I mean, I live nearby and now that we are walking, why don’t we make the best of it while we are at it?
Yeah Deepika, I guess no harm in it. I was working for VoruN Technologies Pvt. Ltd. for long now. I worked really hard my way up the ladder and dedicated most of my time to this company. I loved my work. Today the company’s HR head Mr Ankur Singhania came and asked me to leave. He said that as the company is not doing well the only way to save itself from shutting down is to let some of the employees go and sadly I happen to be one of them. Albeit the company has promised to pay me 6 months’ salary so that I can survive and be secure until I get another job, I am not sure if I will get any because it is really tough to get a job out there in the market. There is a lot of competition and many other people who are looking out for opportunities. Most of them are even ready to work for almost close to free because all they want is a job! In today’s date, most companies say, “Why should we pay you so much when there is this other guy who can do the same work at half the rate that you are demanding?” your experience, skill and talent has nothing to do with the job that you want to do. All they want is to get the job done at the earliest and cheapest. They are not worried about the quality anymore; they look at the quantity and the price. And if someone is ready to do the same work at a lesser price they will hire that guy, because they think that there is always a room for improvement and we can train them once they are in the company.
Now I am afraid as to what I will tell my wife, son and my parents. Thinking I would not have to worry about my job security, I bought a house on home loan and apart from that I have a personal loan to pay, credit card bill and monthly living expenditures. Adding to that I also have to pay my son’s school fees…. How will I provide for my family now? Had I known earlier that such a situation would arise, I would have never risked opting for these loans and now I do not know what will happen next.
Eluded by the race to riches, I thought having a house, a car and a lavish life would bring me safety and riches. I made those choices because it is the dream of every man who has come from a poor/middle-class family to have such a life. And you know how hard it is to get a house these days. If you want a good house it is almost next to impossible to buy it without a home loan, unless you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth. And it is the same thing with everything else. And why would I not be tempted to take these loans? How can anyone not be? I would say I was forced to take them because every day at least 5 banks call me saying “Sir we are calling from so and so bank, we are offering you a lifetime free credit card we have lot benefits sir please do take it.” I cut one call and then there is another, “Sir our bank is offering personal loan for you at a very less rate of interest”, “Sir having a house will be an asset for you we have an attractive home loan plan exclusive for you if you are interested we can come down and explain to you the process” Everyone keeps saying the life that you have is not good enough. And if you want to have a good life, do the following. It is like compelling you to do their bidding.
Now I am broke and stuck in the middle of the road not willing to live and show my face because I have fallen to their tactics and failed my family.
My life is shattered into pieces.
That is really sad Pulkit. Thank you for trusting me and pouring out your story. I am glad that we met.
Care for a coffee? It is on me.
Sure. Thanks.
I love Coffee. It makes me feel really good. Hope it makes you feel better too.
So you were saying that you lost your job and that you are worried about how you will be able to make ends meet right?
Firstly, I want to make you understand that you have only lost your job, not your knowledge and skill. Though you told about the competition out there, do not forget that your worth is not lost. Not all companies look at the way you just said. There are people you give value to the right metal.
Secondly, there always are opportunities around you. There is help as well. You just have to look properly and ask for help when you need one.
Thirdly, never lose faith and confidence in you. You can lose anything and always earn almost all that you say you have lost in your life when your faith in “You” is unshaken.
Lastly, if you do not mind, I can take a few therapy sessions for you so that you can be back up on your feet and back in the game!

I will think of it and let you know Deepika. Right now I am wondering how I should break this news to my wife and family.
if you want my answer, if I were in your place, I would tell my wife, “Honey the Job lost me!” or else I would take some time either to tell her slowly or will let her know once I get another job.
Think over all of it Pulkit. Take your time and if you think the sessions with me would help you out, I will be at N Café in NewseNse Square at 3 PM on Sunday. We can meet there for your first session. Here is my card.
And don’t think too much about the loss Pulkit because it will only give you more pain. Relax, breathe easy, enjoy the weekend and if you are interested, come meet me on the Sunday, let us see what we can do about you. And if you do not like it, we do not need to continue with further sessions.
Thanks Deepika, feeling better now. Will let you know later.
